I often have ladies asking me if they can move on to making blankets using the round looms, and my answer is YES!
This post is about learning and the best resource we have is You Tube.
Grab your loom and some yarn and a cup of coffee and take the time to learn some new techniques.
CAST ON
Did you know there are different types of Cast On. The way you cast on can determine how much stretch is in the first row once off the loom.
Here is a nice 15 minute video about the different types ...
BEGGINERS LOOM STITCHES
Do want to start learning a few new stitches so that you can venture into blanket making?
This 11 minute video will take away any confusion over Knit, Purl, U Wrap, Flat, Rib, Garter etc.
Can I make a suggestion. Make yourself some swatches. Just cast on using 15 pegs and then use the new stitches to make course a 10 cm sample swatch. Make some notes and attach to the swatch or keep in a folder.
Are you ready to try one???
How about using your 24 peg loom and following along with the Loomahat Video below. Denise takes you through step by step. The blanket she is making measures 32 x 34 inches (81x 86cm). You could make one that size and donate it as a lap blanket or just adjust the sizing to make one that measures to fit our cribs at 45 x 60 cm.
If you do one panel at 115 rows , depending on your tension it should come off the loom at about 45cm, which can be the width for your crib blanket. If you make three panels, that should give you your length of 60cm. Denise shows you how to join them in the video.
PLEASE make sure you post a picture on our FaceBook page. We are learning from each other everyday!
And if you then want to add a crochet border to it .... don't go running for the hills screaming "but I can't crochet" because again Denise has an easy to follow video that shows you a nice basic border.
I hope you can follow along and expand your looming skills.
Thanks for stopping by ...
