Yarn Knot Alone has been born out of a desire to support our fellow gal pals here in Muscat and pay it forward to others who could do with a little comfort and the knowledge that someone is thinking of them in their time of need.
Over the past three years working with the Days for Girls Muscat chapter I have felt honoured to work alongside a group of remarkable women who show love, kindness, and friendship to so many. They have made me laugh and cry and filled my heart with love and joy. With the closing of the DFG team it was apparent that there were many ladies who wanted to maintain that connection with other women in Muscat and still be a part of a worthwhile project. Sometimes we can be surrounded by many but still feel alone, and we want those ladies here in Muscat to know there are many others that feel the same way and we want to reach out to you. Yarn Knot Alone has been created to meet those needs.
We are a volunteer group of ladies all around Muscat who crochet, knit, and loom beanies for babies, children and adults in hospitals and collectively yarn blankets and scarves for those in need of some comfort and beauty.
It started over a coffee at Costa MQ on Tuesday 3rd September, two lovely friends who agreed to be my guinea pigs to see if I could "teach" them how make a Granny Square with the aim of us all doing them and then stitching them together to make blankets.
The following week we had 4 ladies, and the following week 8. In a search to find something easier on the hands for those with arthritis we gave looming a go and well let me just say we were all instantly "hooked".
We have now had the green light from Khoula Hospital and The Royal Hospital who as are so excited to join us in this project.
Our aim is to have groups all over Muscat meeting up and yarning, or choosing to simple yarn when they have time, and then once a month we will meet to collect items.
Thanks for taking the time to check in and see what YKAM is all about. We are just starting out so bear with us while we find our feet, our rhythm and our most efficient path.
