Well ladies if I haven't convinced you yet that joining our little movement is a good idea then please take a moment to read just a few of the articles below that outline all the health benefits of knitting and crochet ... top of the list is that it is a major STESS BUSTER.
Knit for Peace conducted a comprehensive study that found knitting to engage the mind, body and emotions in a way that distracts from pain, while also benefiting the physical body through relaxation
Then on top of that we have the amazing benefits of laughter and conversation with others. It might not be a replacement for therapy but it is a welcome relief from those sad blue moments.
I can give a great example. Just last week my son was admitted to hospital for a few days. As we sat in the ER for 6 hours I took out my loom and knit away my worries. It kept my mind busy so I couldn't go to the worrying place. Then for the days we spent in his hospital room it kept me calm, it gave me something to do and I did feel a lot more relaxed. Luckily he was out in a few days is back to his wonderful self now.
Finally out of this wonderful act you produce something. Naturally we are looking for your skills to produce wonderful beanies, blankets, scarfs for others in need but you can start to make your own creations. And let me tell you there is NOTHING better than being able to hand-make gifts for others in this world of mass commercialism.
